Cardiff Airport HBS3

Over 1.4 million passengers travelled through Cardiff Airport in 2017. With passengers comes baggage, making hold baggage screening a vital aspect of continued airport operation.

In order to comply with the Department for Transport’s new legislation Cardiff Airport were required to upgrade their Hold Baggage Screening Standard 2 machines to Standard 3 machines. Burroughs were appointed as Project Manager and Contract Administrator as well as Principal Designer for the project. Burroughs administered the OJEU procurement event on behalf of the client.

The project involved enabling work, supply and installation of two HBS3 machines along with the BHS conveyor lines. The integration of the machine software, conveyors and emergency stops was a complex task achieved through promoting collaborative planning between the various contractors involved.

The two machines went live following extensive confidence trials during the first half of 2018.
