Cardiff Airport Fire Appliances

Burroughs were appointed by Cardiff Airport to procure three 6×6 fire appliances for emergency use on the airfield. Considering the specific requirements of the client, Burroughs facilitated an extensive specification for the trucks inclusive of high reach extending boom technology (HRET).

Burroughs coordinated the procurement process on behalf of Cardiff Airport following European Journal open public tender.

The appointed supplier was an American company, Oshkosh, based in Wisconsin, USA. The use of HRET technology allows fires to be fought with enhanced safety for fire fighters and improved fire fighting strategies.

Local school children took part in a competition to name the fire trucks, which have been called Merlin, Firefly and Y Ddraig Goch (Welsh Dragon). All three are now operational at Cardiff Airport.
