Worcester Southern Link Road

Burroughs are in joint venture with COWI working for Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd and Worcestershire County Council to deliver this exciting major highways scheme. The scheme includes approximately 2km of dualled carriageway, and three bridges including a viaduct over the River Severn at Carrington Bridge.

Burroughs successfully led the team through planning,  and after developing the detailed design work  started on site in spring 2019. Challenges include the River Severn flood environment, a registered battlefield and adjacent Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The project is the final part of a multi-project long-term investment strategy by the Council to improve congestion around Worcester.

The upgrade of the whole Southern Link Road (SLR) route to dual carriageway standard, with associated junction improvements, will significantly increase the attractiveness of this bypass route to motorists, making it the route of choice for East-West movement and relieving congestion in Worcester City Centre.
