Rhyd-y-Blew, Ebbw Vale

Welsh Government has seven Enterprise Zones located across Wales supporting business infrastructure. The Rhyd-y-Blew site is located within the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone and is a major development as part of the area’s regeneration, with ambitions and space to accommodate a vibrant, high technology hotspot of manufacturing companies of all sizes.

Formally an opencast mining site, Rhyd-y-Blew has undergone extensive remediation to create a development plateau. These infrastructure works are to provide the site with suitable access and service supplies.

Burroughs delivered a detailed design for the main highway into the development site, with consideration for both highway and land surface water drainage. Burroughs were able to offer design solutions that maximised opportunity for incoming services into the site and reduced overall pavement construction depth through use of reinforcing geotextiles. Burroughs assisted in the discharge of numerous planning conditions.
