The Radyr Weir Hydro Scheme has won the George Gibby Award for projects over £3 million. The award was presented to the entire project team including Burroughs (Designer),  Dawnus (Contractor) and Cardiff County Council (Client) at the ICE Wales Cymru Awards 2017.

The innovative scheme enables the ability to harness the energy of the River Taff through a hydroelectric power scheme championed by Cardiff Council. Millions of cubic meters of water will be fed through giant Archimedes screw turbines installed adjacent to the River Taff in order to generate 1.6GWh of green electricity per year.

Burroughs fulfilled the role of designer for the project with the assistance of design consultant Renewables First,  creating a 3 dimensional intelligent model with the use of the latest BIM software.
