Peel Clothworkers School

The refurbishment of a junior school on the Isle of Man involving improved links to a number of individual blocks, an extension to an existing 1970’s building and an improved reception area. Burroughs were appointed as Civil and Structural Engineers for the project, which involved the design of a number of steel framed single storey buildings with masonry cladding.

A new Assembly Hall was also within the scope of work, which included the design of a hybrid steel and Glulam timber frame with tongue and groove decking, acting as a diaphragm to help stabilise the structure by transferring loads to stainless steel cross bracing in the end bays.

Careful planning and liaison with the School and Contractors was necessary to phase the works, so that the School could be kept open whilst Health and Safety standards were maintained.
