Isle Of Man – Rail Crossings

The Steam Railway and Manx Electric Railway run between Port Erin and Douglas and Douglas and Ramsey in the Isle of Man respectively, covering over 30 miles. Between both Railways, there are over 30 level crossings. Burroughs was appointed by the Isle of Man Railways with the intention to design the refurbishment of these rail crossings.

Burroughs reviewed the typical existing crossings and produced a number of designs, specifications and standard details that could be applied in combination to refurbish any configuration of crossing. These accounted for varying road widths, differing rail sections and gauge, drainage and service requirements.
